How a Personal CFO Relationship Works
A single point of accountability
Most affluent households accumulate advisors the way they accumulate accounts — one at a time, each solving a narrow problem, none of them talking to each other. The CPA does not see the portfolio. The estate attorney does not see the cash flow model. The result is a set of individually reasonable decisions that add up to something incoherent.
The Personal CFO engagement exists to fix that. We function as the central coordinating function for your financial life: we build the plan, manage the portfolio, and coordinate with your existing tax and legal professionals so that every decision is made with the full balance sheet in view.
What the first year looks like
Discovery and diagnostics
We start by building a complete picture — every account, entity, policy, property, and obligation. Most clients have never seen their full balance sheet in one place. That document alone changes conversations.
Plan construction
We model total income, cash flow, tax exposure, and estate structure against your stated goals. The output is not a bound report that sits on a shelf; it is a living model we revisit as circumstances change.
Portfolio implementation
Portfolios are built to fund the plan, constructed for after-tax, after-fee outcomes, and benchmarked against your goals rather than an arbitrary index.
Ongoing coordination
Quarterly reviews, annual all-advisor meetings, and continuous access. Your reporting updates in real time rather than arriving six weeks after quarter-end.
The fee is designed to shrink
Nearly every advisory firm charges a percentage of assets under management, which means the fee rises automatically as markets rise, without any additional work performed. We think that is backwards.
WealthEQ charges a fixed annual fee calculated by multiplying the applicable percentage by the value of your account at the inception of the relationship. It does not increase because the market went up. It decreases when you complete your wealth plan within the first five years, and decreases again when you stick to the investment plan for five years. Those two one-time reductions take a 0.80% starting rate to 0.50%.
The fee base is recalculated if the assets we manage or advise on change materially — additions or permanent withdrawals exceeding 10% of the current fee base over a rolling twelve months. Ordinary saving and dollar-cost averaging fall below that threshold and do not trigger a change.
